The Fire Inspectors Association of Nova Scotia (FIANS) is a provincial association founded in 1994 as a not for profit organization and represents individuals and organizations that are dedicated to saving lives and property through the prevention of fires.

FIANS prides itself on providing exceptional educational offerings and in September 2026, we are launching our new Level 1 Professional Educational Programming (PEP). The new format will allow an individual to get through all eight level 1 courses within one year if s/he can commit to one course a month starting in September and working through to May 2027. The dates for the offerings are listed in the link below. Registration fees and forms will be disseminated mid July.

FIANS is also providing in class sessions for the Introduction to Fire Inspections program through July, August and September of 2026. This self directed program is part of the requirement for the FIANS Level 1 certification and allows an individual, over a one year period, to go through the basics of fire inspections. The classroom instruction helps those who want assistance in staying on track or simply want to benefit from group discussion and sharing of experiences.

The Level 2 certification programming will begin in September 2027 and run through to May 2028. At that time, FIANS will have completed the first rotation of the new Level 1 and Level 2 educational offerings, taking a 6 year program and reducing it to 2 years.

As an association we are always here for our members and others in the community to help better understand the fire inspection field. Please take the opportunity to explore our website and if you have any questions then please feel free to contact us at info@fians.ns.ca.
