Central local:
The Central local leadership and members are active in the association on a number of levels including participating in training sessions throughout the year and on the board and executive of FIANS. They are also very interested in assisting any member or non members with questions related to fire inspection in the central region of the province. As COVID restrictions ease and membership increases in the local, there will be opportunities for networking and further exploring outreach.
Highland local:
While the Highland local has not been particularly active due to Covid-19 restrictions in Nova Scotia, our members are still actively ensuring businesses in the region are safe in light of fire safety requirements, and educating the general public on the Fire Safety Act and how it affects their life. As conferences and training are beginning up again this fall, we are looking forward to reconnecting, learning, and discussing current fire and life safety topics with our colleagues. Our hope is to resume local meetings in the new year.
Island local:
Essential businesses navigating their way through COVID-19 still need to consider their building’s fire and life safety. While COVID-19 shows no signs of abating over the coming months, essential businesses will need to find innovative ways to address their fire safety challenges. Most importantly during COVID-19, we can help essential businesses ensure the fire safety of their building while maintaining social distancing guidelines. If you have any questions, please contact your local fire inspectors to help plan a mutually acceptable way to conduct your inspection.
South Shore local:
The South Shore local is active both on the local level and within the association. We regularly attend training conferences which allow us to stay properly trained to do our jobs. It also allows us to form great networking relationships. Our local meets four times a year to discuss code related topics and how everyone handles the enforcement to try and have consistency between districts. Our goal are to properly educate people on fire safety, to keep our local businesses safe for everyone and to save lives.
Valley local:
2020 has been a difficult year with Covid-19 restrictions not allowing members to attend regularly scheduled quarterly meetings. Despite that, valley local members remain active keeping fire and life safety at the forefront and working to educate the public on fire safety. Semi annual conferences begin again this fall. With plans to resume regular spring and fall conferences, quarterly local meetings will begin again in 2021.
