The Fire Inspectors Association of Nova Scotia (FIANS) is a provincial association that was founded in 1994 as a not for profit organization and represents individuals and organizations that are dedicated to saving lives and property through the prevention of fires.
A new PEP model is being launched this fall that will set the course for the next three years. As you can see from the above notice, FIANS is presenting a fast track program starting in September 2025 and running through to June 2026. This will allow any individual who is interested to complete their Level 1 and Level 2 FIANS fire inspection certification in a one year window. After that, our Level 1 will start September 2026 and run through to June 2027. The following year (September 2027 – June 2028) will see the Level 2 material presented. This is a significant shift in how we deliver our program and FIANS is excited to present this to our membership and those interested in fire protection.
For those of you who may be familiar with our programming, you will also note that we have realigned our course offerings (as indicated on the certification application forms) to better prepare those working in the field of fire prevention. Our Level 1 will now consist of a thorough review of each part of the National Fire Code of Canada plus a few extra offerings. The Introduction to Fire Inspections program, formerly known as the home study program, is also part of the requirements for your Level 1.
FIANS is looking forward to your participation in our new Professional Education Program.
As an association we are always here for our members and others in the community to help better understand the fire inspection field. Please take the opportunity to explore our website and if you have any questions then please feel free to contact us at info@fians.ns.ca.
