Conferences
With two sessions a year, our members are given opportunities to further their training and network with not only other fire inspectors in the province but also individuals involved in fire safety.

Courses
FIANS provides training for individuals to achieve their level 1 and 2 certification. Delivery includes a home study component as well as in class training sessions and site visits. -
Bylaws
Please find our newly approved bylaws here. These were passed at our most recent annual general meeting held in Halifax at the Ramada Park Place Hotel in May 2014.

Upcoming Fire Code Changes Course
This free day long session will provide individuals working and / or interested in fire and life safety with an opportunity to participate in an exceptional learning experience where words of each revision will be read aloud, then interpreted for correct meaning and understanding.

President’s Message
The Fire Inspectors Association of Nova Scotia (FIANS) is a provincial association that was founded in 1994 as a not for profit organization and represents individuals and organizations that are dedicated to saving lives and property through the prevention of fires.
As President of FIANS, I am honored to work with our community partners and the dedicated individuals on the Board of Directors and within the membership to provide educational opportunities and collaboration on fire inspection activities. FIANS provides our members with a comprehensive professional studies program, which has, as it’s overall mission, the enhancement of human and organizational performance as it relates to the use and application of codes and standards.
In addition, FIANS is pleased to be presenting 4 sessions reviewing and discussing the National Fire Code of Canada 2020 Edition – Changes from the National Fire Code of Canada 2015 Edition and the Nova Scotia Fire Safety Regulations – Chanes contained in Schedule A – March 20, 2025. Registration is open for these events and I urge you to sign up for the one in your area… or the virtual one if it fits better with your schedule. This one day educational offering will walk participants through the words of each addition / revision, will ensure these are interpreted for correct meaning and understanding and will provide options for field application of each addition / revision as appropriate.
Stay tuned for more news through the summer months as FIANS transforms its current method of delivery to a model that is better suited to the growing demands for fire inspectors in Nova Scotia and further afield.
